BERG Singapore fetes India-based educational institutions

Berg Singapore SINGAPORE, OCTOBER 14, 2014 – India-based educational institutions and educationists were awarded at the inaugural edition of the BERG Awards for Education here today. Conceptualised and hosted by the Singapore-based Business Excellence & Research Group (BERG), the awards also highlighted the crucial role being played by the education sector, both private and public, in helping capitalise on India’s much acclaimed ‘demographic dividend’.
The Vice-Chancellor of NMIMS University, Mumbai, Dr Rajan Saxena and Chancellor of Lovely Punjab University, Mr Ashok Mittal were given a special recognition with the Distinguished Educationist award for their contribution to the education sector.Chairman of the BERG Advisory Board, Mr Thomas McMahon said, “India’s youth hold the promise and the education sector plays a critical role in harvesting this immense potential. Innovation-led skills development is a need of the hour and a robust public-private partnership will be needed to achieve this.”
The BERG Awards for Innovation & Excellence in Indian Education attracted participation from a large cross-section of institutions and educationists. These included private universities, engineering & management colleges, vocational training institutes as well as individuals who are playing a key role in the education sector in various parts of the country.
Mr Vishwesh Iyer, Managing Partner, BERG Singapore said, “There is a tremendous amount of exciting innovation taking place in the Indian education sector with the private sector also playing a very major and critical role. In putting together the BERG Awards, we were fortunate to have been able to witness some of these developments and we hope this spotlight will be an inspiration for the sector to do more and equip the younger generation with better employability skills.Based on a multiple level evaluation by the BERG team of analysts, a total of 12 awards were presented at the Gala Awards night in Singapore. The function was attended among others by some of the renowned educationists in Singapore as well the founders of the Singapore-based The Innovators Institute.
